Oh me!

We are so small between the stars & so large against the sky. and lost in subway croud, I try to catch your eye …..

Qurat-u-lain Baluch has rendered a beautiful version of this song by Abida Parween for coke studio. The original nazm was meant to capture the emotions fet by the divided east Pakistan – west Pakistan population, after the 1971 war which saw the creation of Bangladesh. It has been penned down by Naseer Turabi

These days, it has been synonymous with the memories that remain after a divorce.

My translation of certain words is in english…

humsafar: fellow traveller ( used  for spouse )

humnavai: the feeling of being together,

adawatein : anger

tagaful: inconsiderateness

rangish: anguish

bewafai : infidelity

shab-e-firaq : the night of separation

Shikasta dil : defeat of heart

shikasta pai : defeat of feet ( to give up walking )

( Naseer Turai, 1971 (?) )
